Sound stops working

My husband and I have iPhone 4. His is jailbroken, mine isn't. The last few weeks both our phones have started losing sound on incoming text messages, typing etc. Can anyone tell me how to fix this. I'm using iOS 4.3.5, hubby is 4.3.3 if this helps
