Spotify Surpasses 40 Million Paid Users As It Prepares For IPO

The battle for the top music streaming service is ongoing, as Apple Music gains more and more subscribers every day. At Apple's September 7 event, the company announced that it added four million new accounts to Apple Music, for a total of seventeen million subscribers.

Don't give up hope on Spotify just yet. As the Swedish music streaming giant prepares for an initial public offering, CEO Daniel Ek announced on Twitter today that Spotify has hit forty million subscribers.

Back on June 20, Spotify announced that it has 30 million paid accounts and more than one hundred million users in total. Apple Music was able to acquire over ten million users within its first month, however the service does offer a three-month free trial, which Spotify does not.
