Stopping phone from playing sound

Hello,
Please pardon my ignorance if I post in the wrong location, but I have a question.

I have an IPhone 5 and I love it, but the question I have regards the bluetooth functionality on the phone.

When I connect my bluetooth, my ringer plays both through my bluetooth headphones and through the phone speakers. Is there a way to stop the phone from playing through the speakers, and only playing through the headset I am using?

I don't know about you but I'd rather keep it the way it is. After all others can hear the ringtone and won't think I'm crazy if I just start talking to no one that they can see. ;-)

The only reason I wanted to change it was because when I am away from my phone and I leave my music playing my ringer can be annoying to other people. They supposedly hear all notifications
