Syncing Iphone4

Last night I was trying to sync my phone to the computer, but it would have problems. I only have about 5.5% of space left on my 32GB phone, so I am trying to free up some space by deleting some music. When I try to sync, it gets so far and then it tells me that it has found 9 errors when trying to transfer apps from phone to computer. First of all, why would I get errors and how do I fix them? Does this operation normally transfer the apps before syncing the music?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try the manual manage of videos and music.
There is an option when your iphone is connected to iTunes. Check the box.
