Continuity is a new iOS feature which allows iOS users to continue text conversations and calls across devices. Prior to the release of iOS 9, it required the communicating devices to be on the same WiFi network for it to work.
However, along with the iOS 9 beta, the functionality can be used over cellular, as well. According to online reports, it seems that T-Mobile is the first carrier to allow this new feature to its customers.
By using Continuity, users can send texts and make calls from their iPad or Yosemite-equipped Mac if their iPhone isn't nearby. For that to work, you need to have the iOS 9 beta software installed. Or you can wait until the final version of iOS 9 is released, to be sure you don't get any unexpected surprises.
