Text messages, No!

How can I not send and receive text messages. My neighbor has this feature on his iphone 4 but can't tell me how he got it.

I need to add a little more. I just want to do I messages.

You can only use iMessage with other iPhone users that have it enabled as well. Unless you force them to buy an iPhone and force them to enable iMessage, you are at other people's mercy...

If you are looking for free texting options, there are several out there. Skype, Viber, Google Voice, etc. Do a bit of searching....
