Texts in multiple parts

I notice when I get texts from friends on Droids that it always seems to break message down into multiple parts. But appears iPhone does not. What's with that???

Works the other way too. Messages from iPhones would split apart on my droid every time. I counted characters and it was breaking down into SMS sized messages instead of going as mms messages.
