Nowadays, there’s one thing teenagers seemingly can’t live without – the iPhone. According to a new survey published by Piper Jaffray, most young adults prefer the Apple smartphone to any Android alternative out there.
The research not only covered teenagers’ tastes in gadgets, but was also interested in uncovering fashion, food consumption or beauty & personal care trends. The survey included 1,600 teens coming from wealthy households and 3,600 teens from the middle class.
According to the findings, 48% of the teenagers already own a version of the iPhone. Out of those who don’t own one yet, 62% are planning or saving up to purchase one in the near future. Android comes up next in the teens’ preferences with only 21% of young adults planning to purchase one. Windows Phone devices don’t seem to appeal to the young generation, as only 5% of participants opted for them.
Piper Jaffray stated:
“We believe this demonstrates that Apple remains the top choice for teens despite more competition from Samsung. […]We believe that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and eventually the S4 are taking share from other Android devices, but little from Apple in terms of the teen demographic.”
Apple remains the teen favorite in the tablet sector, as well. All in all, 51% of young adults are users of such devices. Out of these, 63% own a full-fledged iPad, while surprisingly only 5% prefer the iPad mini. Apple is apparently doing a well job in building customer loyalty by making sure the population takes up its products from a young age.
