With the launch of the next iPhone fast approaching, the various rumours are getting more and more frequent, so much so that its hard to know what to believe, but some are still worth reporting just in case they happen to be true. Take this report on BGR today, for example, where Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White told investors today about a Chinese-language news story on Sohu.com that says that Apple and China Telecom have come to a preliminary agreement, and that China Telecom will be launching two different iPhones by the end of October. The first of the two phones will be the iPhone 5, and the second will be a retooled, cheaper version of the iPhone 4. White says that he believes that the combination of a cheaper iPhone and a more high-end iPhone being released at the same time could together create a long-term $68 billion opportunity for Apple simply from the China Telecom deal alone.
