unable to add events in calendar

Hi, I am able to enter all the details about an event, but when I choose 'done', I get the message 'Cannot Save Event No calendar has been set' even though I have chosen a calendar. Also, unable to delete an event - able to go through all the steps, but the event is still in my calendar. Have sync'd my phone with Itunes, and any calendar items I've added or deleted there are sync'd in my Iphone. Any suggestions?​
