Unique speed dial / dial by name app ?

Old Palm phone I had had ability to search by any string of characters inside of whole name.

If contact was John Doe, you could type in "ndo" (last letter of first name and first coupe of last name) and it would uniquely find this contact.

You could also type in interim string - for John Smith, type in "mit".

Have over 2,000 contacts - above made if very easy to quickly find unique match.

Anything similar for iPhone ?
