Unlocking iphone 4

Hi guys, my iphone is on 4.0.2. Its on a network that i dont have where im from so essentially is an expensive ipod at the moment (was a present from less technically savvy people) iv been looking for unlocking solutions for 4.0.2 and iv gotten no where, can anyone suggest what to do, whether i should upgrade the phone and then unlock or what? Getting very frustrated with it at the moment!! Cheers in advance!

jailbreak the unlock with Utrasn0w..

you can upgrade but if you do you have to use an app like pwnage tool or sn0wbreeze so that it does not upgrade that baseband, the moment you upgrade the baseband you will be stuck

It says that it must be jailbroken to be unlock, sorry to be technically stupid about it but will it explain everything on it??
