My Mom bought a new Iphone on EBay and asked me to initialize it for her. I connected it to my IBM computer which has ITunes on it, and intialized it. I unchecked the box for automatic synch, and didn't do anything else.

Now I'm worried that it automatically grabbed music and photos and put them on my Mom's IPhone -- My personal Data?????? My emails or Skype account??

Am I right to be worried? Does it work that way?

to make sure you could browse her phone before giving the device back to her and if it has added any of your data to her phone you can restore it but the phone would be in sync mode for some time and you would of noticed it..

I know why you added that word but you do not need to say it on the forum, just say important data and that is all we need to know :)

Thanks. Well, I didn't look through her phone after I synchronized it. It had been wiped by the previous owner. I didn't notice it synching anything.

Does it automatically grab photos and such when being initialized???

I already gave it to her -- that's the whole problem!!!!!!

with a new device on your computer it should of asked if you want to set it up as a new phone or sync to a backup of your itunes account, but the screen will go black and say syncing on top of it for some time so if you did not see that then you're safe and it would be very hard to miss it

Ah, that sounds better. I definitely chose "Set Up As A New Phone", and did not confirm any synchronization. But I certainly wasn't looking at the phone so what was displayed on the screen would not have been visible to me. I unchecked the "auto synch" box, and gave the phone a name when prompted, and that's it.

But after handing over the phone to my Mom, I remembered how ITunes will suck everything off your computer to put onto an IPod, without asking, and wondered if it does the same thing with IPhones. In your opinion -- not?

oh well if you selected set up as a new phone you really have nothing to worry about because it uses its own library on itunes with nothing on there, I have three iphones in sync with one itunes on my computer and they all sync different files, but if you're really un sure and want to check you could always grab it from her (if possible) and check?

Whew, I hope you're right. I can't just grab the phone from her -- it would be really suspicious. I recently got into a big, huge, gnarly heap of trouble when she found my other collections on my desktop computer, I'm going to be like grounded for a year.

Let's keep the posts clean please.. using **'s is not good enough..

that is disturbing though if you use your mothers collection : You should learn to hide your personal data better ;)

Just make up an excuse say that you want to send an mms and see if it works or try out imessage on her phone and quickly check even with her right there it only takes a second.

I know -- it was pretty stupid for me to leave it all in my My Photos folder :(

I have TrueCrypt but have been too lazy to get my files organized and protected -- there is just so much of it . . .

My mother's collection is no good -- all she's got is this sappy X-Art stuff -- made for girls. :(
