Upgraded to 4S from 4

Just got a new 4S from someone upgrading to i5. So, is it correct that all I have to do is 1) make sure the phone is reset to default as a brand new phone, which dumps everything that was on it from previous owner? Then 2) transfer my SIM card from my 4 to the 4S? From that stage I follow the prompts. Do I set it up as new phone or set it up with a backup of my 4?

Restore the iPhone, this will update it to 6.0
Put your SIM in
Restore the backup.
