Was the iPhone 4 inferior to the Samsung Galaxy S2?

I know the iPhone 4S is better than the Galaxy S2 but before it was released we only had the iPhone 4. With its single core chip the iPhone 4 seems weak in comparison to the Galaxy S2 has a dual core chip. The S2 made tough competion for the iPhone 4. The point is that the iPhone 4 was still the best selling phone of its time but im not sure it should have been since it seems that it's spec was inferior to that of Samsung's Galaxy S2. any thoughts?
