My friend brought an iPod touch for me, and I wonder what generation is it ?

And if either it's 1,2,3,4 would I be able to jailbreak it.

It could also be the 3rd gen. Plug it into iTunes and if it tells you there's an update past 4.2.1 or your already on a later version then it's the 3rd gen...

Or the 4th generation. I have the 4th generation and the back looks exactly the same as does the front.

The forth gen has quite a few differences to the 2nd and 3rd. There's no chrome edge and more noticeably it has the face time camera at the front...
