Whatsapp will not connect and icons are white on 3gs JB cydia

Please help. I purchased this phone unlocked/jailbroken w Cydia. I am a newbie to iPhones, and know little to nothing about Cydia and how it works. Most stuff seems to work Ok except Whatsapp , which installed itself when I synced with iTunes, and most of my icons have turned white as well.
I would like to fix both problems obviously, but right now I am most interested in getting back on Whatsapp.
I have spent hours online looking these both up to no avail.
