Why did Apple stop releasing updates for the iPhone 3G?

I have an iPhone 3G. I hate that just because Apple released the iPhone 4 that they stopped releasing updates for the 3G. I know it won't matter cause I'm getting an iPhone 4 on Friday. But still. It shows while Apple's customers are loyal to Apple. Apple is not loyal to it's customers. What gives?

The 3G is used by date for upgrades. As it would not perform to your satisfaction

I have a 3GS and all upgrades work however the phone is sluggish All manufactures have cut off dates for upgrades so do not claim apple.

True but Apple forces you to upgrade in order to use the newest version of apps. So they make you buy a new one. Or change to the competitor(s)...

Supposedly its because the old iphone 3g would not have the capacity to run the new upgrades...

It would be like running a ps3 game/ emulator on a windows 98 computer... Not practicl!
