iOS does not support downgrading, so meaning if you're on iOS 8, made a backup, and restoring back to 7.1.2, your backup will not work without modifications. The same is the case if theoretically youwere able to downgrade from 7.1.2 to 7.1.1. Your 7.1.2 would not work. It's the same for both iCloud and iTunes backups.

ok, so I restored phone to the os7! Very happy. Now, if I were to go to icloud, could I restore what was the ios8 junk to this, as I want my contacts....or just leave well enough alone, as I'm only awaiting my new 6. I don't wanna screw this up. plz advise

Gonna chill on this. Leaving well enuff alone. 4s running like new again! Unsure why, but had to unistall iTunes. It was messing up my home wifi, effecting iPhones and anything wifi related. Nothing can be easy. Windows 7
