90 Percent of Recently Purchased Smartphones in US are Either iOS or Android

9to5 Mac reports on the latest Nielsen survey results, which indicate that iOS and Android continue to dominate the US smartphone market, with iOS gaining fast on Android. According to the newest figures, which are looking at people who have bought a smartphone in the past three months, Apple’s iOS now has 43% of new smartphone owners, and Google’s Android has 48%. Android’s share has stayed the same at 48%, so it looks like it’s RIM’s BlackBerry and the “Other category” of smartphones that have lost customers to iOS. In terms of smartphone owners in general, Nielsen found that Android still leads the way with 48%, with Apple in second place with 32.1%, and BlackBerry bringing up the rear with just 11.6%. Finally, looking at smartphone ownership in general, Nielsen finds that 49.7% of US mobile subscribers now have smartphones, marking an increase of 38% year-on-year, with only 36% of mobile subscribers owning smartphones in February 2011.

To be honest, android are pretty cool, the apps are quite good, not as good as apple

I believe apple and android will be competing for some time similar to pc and mac. I personally like it because it forces both to keep coming out with better technology which in the end the consumer wins.
