The FTs Technology section reports that Apple has had a bumper pre-Christmas period in terms of smartphone sales, succeeding in holding off some of its major rivals and their shiny new models, including Nokias newly launched Windows phone, and other new phones from the likes of Huawei and ZTE. The Financial Times quotes new figures that it has seen from GfK, based on sales data from the main players in the smartphone market, which show that Apples iPhone 4S sold the most units of all the smartphones in the four week period up until December 9. According to the report, the iPhone 4S accounted for nearly a quarter of all smartphone sales for the specified period. And the good news for Apple didnt stop there, with the FT reporting that five different iPhone models were placed in the top 15 smartphones sold in the first week of December, representing over 37 percent of sales, again according to GfK.
