The future of wireless charging is electrifying (but not literally)! Apple and a small startup called Energous are rumored to be teaming up to bring about a wireless charging revolution. While wireless charging is something we can already do on various different mobile devices, the current implementation is of limited convenience. This is because the device must basically be placed on a wireless charging pad to charge. Energous is developing something that will take that concept to a whole new level by wirelessly charging multiple devices from up to 15 feet away.

Energous is developing something they call WattUp. It us a two-part system that can let nearly any type of device recharge wirelessly over longer distances than is currently possible. The way it works is that the device you want charged must have a tiny integrated Energous receiver chip. If your device has that, then it can take advantage of the WattUp power transmitter.

If the rumors are true, then Energous might be signing an exclusive partnership with Apple. That would mean that all of your future Apple devices, your iPhone 8, your iPad Air 5, and maybe even other Apple devices could be charging all of the time in each room you have a WattUp transmitter.

Just imagine a world where you no longer need to charge your device when at home or in the office. It just constantly charges itself. This tech might eventually evolve to even work in some public venues as well. That would be a huge marketing advantage to the first smartphone maker to implement this tech.

For now the Apple and Energous team-up is just floating around in the rumor-mill, but we will keep an eye out for any future confirmation. Sound off and let us know what you think of this exciting new technology!

I can see Apple buying Energous if this technology works as well as it seems.
