Life Inc. on MSNBC.com today reports on a new survey of 58,000 Consumerreports.org readers which will make worrying reading for AT&T executives. In the survey, which is due to be published on Tuesday, AT&T ranked last out of all cell phone carriers, and the summing up of the results by Consumer Reports writers was even more damning that the lowly ranking:
This carrier scored lowest in satisfaction in almost all cities in our survey and was the worst rated in almost all other respects, they wrote.
In contrast, the iPhone 4 placed very highly among respondents, with its display, phone navigation, web browsing and battery life all getting high scores. The iPhone 4 also performed well in Consumer Reports tests.
Interestingly enough, Verizon Wireless, the company that is often rumoured to be the next carrier to have the iPhone, came out on top, alongside Sprint, in terms of overall satisfaction.
Update: Life Inc. updates its report by saying that an AT&T spokeswoman has responded to the survey with the following statement:
We take this seriously and we continually look for new ways to improve the customer experience.
AT&T also said that the company believes it has the fastest mobile broadband network and that its dropped call rate is only slightly behind that of the industry leader.
