MacRumors reports that AT&T has today issued a statement announcing that it will be unlocking customers' iPhones to use on any network they like when their 24-month contract expires, starting this Sunday April 8. In the statement, AT&T said that the only requirements for a qualifying customer to have their iPhone unlocked by AT&T are that their account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee.
This is something that AT&T customers have been calling for for a long time, and follows on from the news story last month about AT&T agreeing to unlock a customers iPhone when he moved to Canada when they were asked to do so personally by Apple CEO Tim Cook. Let the unlocking commence!
