CA Police Scanner App

This is probably a stupid question but does anyone know If the radio communications on the CA Police Scanner are actually live or if they are old radio transmissions?

The reason I ask is cuz the app description says " listen to the largest collection of live feeds "

Also does this app use data?

Live, as far as I know. I use US SCANNER. Pretty much all I want to hear. There are a few that I am waiting for. Not too sure how long it will take. Which do you use?

Ive heard live calls... Ive been on their and a friend said that he heard me...

Guess the only way to know for sure would be to place an actual 911 call & see if I can hear it on the scanner lol. Not stupid enough to actually do that though!
