Can You Hack an iphone 4 ???

Friend has just called me all in a panic and thinks her phone has been hacked , 150 texts sent out ..
I said I don't think this is easily possible and more likely an email hack ...
Not asking in detail how to do this please ....
But is this feasible and if so how could it have been done ???
This is urgent guys

There are cases where devices are hijacked but it's very rare as is the case of viruses/malware/spyware and bugs being planted on your device. To say the least, unless someone has gotten to your friend's phone physically, it's most likely not hacked.
