checking for mail

Good Day everyone
New user with a question here,
Today my iphone 4s reads checking for mail under in my hotmail account and it will not stop. I turned the phone off and then back on and problem persist.
I checked my outlook as well as the hotmail account and am able to log in and see new emails. Please help.

I've heard it's not compatible with hotmail accounts. This could be the reason it's constantly checking.

It has worked flawlesly for the week ive had the phone, then this started today.

Only other option then is delete the account from your phone. Turn it off and on and redo your account. See how that turns out.
