Connection to server failed

I am having problems with my Hotmail account using the apple mail application. On Tuesday I started getting the
"Cannot get mail the connection to the server failed" error message. If I go directly to hotmail through Safari I can retrieve my mail but have to enter account and password sometimes which is a pain. Is anyone else having this issue
or can give me some help. Never had a problem before Tuesday.

I'm having the same problem since yesterday, no matter if on wifi or sprint network. Wifi is working since web browsing is available on phone. Messages can be retrieved thru web browser. I have reboted, shut down, deleted account and re-opened in iphone (both as POP and exchange accounts) to no avail. Iphone 4S, 6.0.1 ios & Sprint Network.
