Great idea - creating an app

I have a great idea for an app that I think would appeal to lots of people. However, though I'm good with computers, I wouldn't have a clue how to create an app. Do people who have apps online create their own, or how is that done?

Also, if one's idea is to make available video clips of things to those who get the app, is that possible, too?

Some people create their own apps while others contract people out to create the app for them. I'm not sure about the last statement.
