help determine the iphone gen

i am new to the world of iphone and decided to buy one used on ebay. I want an iphone 4 and won an auction for one. my buddy told me that the picture does not look like an iphone 4 but ranter a iphone 3. can you tell me what it looks like to you in the photo. thanks in advance.

What you have is either an iPhone 4 or 4S. Do you have any photos that show the side of the phone in the area of the volume buttons? This would enable one to determine exactly which model you have.

This looks like a GSM iPhone 4. The top right side does not have a black band, which is present in the CDMA iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Like scifan57 said, you'll need to take a picture of the sides of the phone such as the right side (with respect to the picture provided) and the top with the headphone jack

Not from a still photo it isn't.
