Saving a file

I emailed an attachment to me for use on my iPhone 15. I have read many examples of copying the attachment. None work. I keep coping the entire email, not just the attachment. The screens, I am supposed to navigate to, do not display what I need. Also, I usually cannot find the saved file, but when I do the file shows an envelope, which means I copied the entire email, not just the attachment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which app do you use? Is it the built in Mail app, or a different one?

The built in mail app. I can find the email. I can see the attachment. Some web sites, suggest share, some save to file.

I would probably save to files then go into the files app, and copy it from there into whatever you need.

It shouldn‘t save the entire email.

Do you open the file in the Mail app, before saving it to Files?

When you open the saved file, does it show the whole email, or just the attachment you want?

It doesn‘t save the whole email. I‘ve just saved a few files from my iCloud email account to Files, and I see the envelope as well now. It wasn’t like this before. But when I tap this, it‘s just the file I‘ve saved. It looks like Apple added a new feature.

Why does the saved file have an email icon next to it. I have other files without that icon?

Because it was saved from an email. When you open the file in the Files app, you‘ll get something like this:

When you tap „Show Original“, you‘ll be directed to the email where the file came from.

I don't have an option st show original.
