help me with iPhone 5.0.1 update

my iphone4 won't let me update to 5.0.1 it says something to do with the network settings could nobody help me please thanks Lola

It could be two things. You don't have a wireless connection or you don't have Internet on your pc to download through iTunes.

He's pointing out that if you don't have a wireless connection then you cannot update OTA... since it's a bigger update than the 20MB data limit.

iv jut tried updating it again and it says make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active try again later, i don't understand argh can any one help please????

Let's get a few more details out of the way here first. Are you trying to update w/ your phone connected to the computer via iTunes? Also, is the error message coming up on on your phone or on your computer?

Make sure your iTunes is updated to the most recent version... and that you don't have a firewall kicking on when iTunes tries to connect to the internet. Have you updated your phone via iTunes using this computer before/

my iTunes is the latest version how do I check the firewall thing? and yeah I have updated my phone loads of times via iTunes

You can check your firewall settings through your Control Panel (if you're using Windows... not sure on Mac though) but I'm not sure if that's your issue since you've updated using the same computer before. Are we getting a good internet connection... i.e. being able to browse web pages ok. Try restarting your computer... that will refresh your network & IP connections. I'm running out of options here... LOL!!! Hopefully someone will chime in that's perhaps had this issue as well.

What do you call ISP? (Internet Service Provider?) If yes then it means that you are not having internet on your computer, there is nothing you can do about the iOS update if you do not have internet on your computer. It's about about your firewall but maybe about you getting in touch with your ISP and asking them to know how you can have your internet connection back.

yes it just won't connect it says error 678 and we have had the Internet for years so im not sure what the problem could be?

Are you able to browse internet on your computer? are you able to browse internet on your iPhone right now? is it only iTunes on your computer which is returning that error?
