Helppp error 29

I have an iPhone 3GS newbootrom I believe I just wanted to update connected to Itunrs n put restore it was almost over when outta nowhere error 29 n it's stuck on the connect to iTunes I heard new battery work but I don't wanna pay for it since I only use it as an iPod so is there another fix.
