my friend is weird lol.

So is it free of charge? since I'm running it on wifi?? and how long will this last???
Yeah it's free of charge and will work always as long as you have a wifi connection and your correspondents are also having iMessage activate in their iPhones.

I had another thought that just came up, how am I going to receive text messages when they give my phone number away? I haven't paid my phone bill in a few months due to unemployment.

Correct. It will be using your email address. Once again...iMessage has nothing to do with your phone bill or company.

You'll have it forever. It uses your email address not a cell phone number. Basically your phone is now an iPod Touch. You'll be able to text with anyone who's running iOS5 on an iDevice. (not iPods). And "you" have to be on Wifi - but they don't. And can still text with "them" using their phone number. Even if they're in the Swiss Alps! Pretty cool, huh?
