AppleInsider reports today that despite the fact that Microsoft has been saying that its upcoming Mango update for Windows Phone 7 would have a better HTML5 performance than Apples iOS, the results of new tests show that the iOS 5 beta is in fact faster than Mango after all!
The tests were run by WinRumors using the iOS 5 beta on an iPhone 4, with the result that the iOS 5 beta attained 31 frames per second. When Microsoft vice president Joe Belfiore ran a test on a Windows Phone 7 running Mango recently, it rendered HTML5 pages at 24 frames per second, while the iPhone 4 that Belfiore tested at the same time could only manage 2 frames per second. Guess that Microsoft test looks like an anomaly now, especially, as AppleInsider points out, Microsofts test was developed specifically for mobile IE9, with the phone using a 3G connection, whereas the iPhone 4 used in Microsofts test was Wi-Fi only.
