The iPhone 16 Pro series is rumored to get small display size increases.

There could be a 6.9 inch diagonal on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, up from 6.7 inches on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro will get a 6.3-inch display, a .2in increase from the iPhone 15 Pro's 6.1-inch display.

Funny enough, the original iPad Mini had a screen size of 7.9 inches. So 12 years later, the biggest iPhone is only an inch smaller than the iPad Mini. It's only a matter of time before the iPhone is as big as an iPad Mini!

Is a size increase enough to upgrade for you?

No, because the bigger the phone, the bigger the price tag.

Besides, I want a phone that will fit in my shirt pocket comfortably.

I'll concede the second point, but the Pro Max model iPhone has started at the same price for many years now, with no price increases despite the increasing display size.

The rumored size increases for the iPhone 16 Pro series are definitely intriguing, especially for those who value larger displays for media consumption, gaming, or productivity. A 6.9-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro Max would bring it tantalizingly close to the original iPad Mini’s 7.9-inch screen—showing just how far iPhones have come in 12 years. It’s fascinating (and a little funny) to think about how smartphones are inching closer to tablet territory!

That said, whether this size bump is enough to justify an upgrade really depends on the user. For someone coming from an older iPhone with a much smaller screen or an earlier Pro model, the increase might make a noticeable difference. Larger displays are fantastic for split-screen multitasking, immersive gaming, and watching videos on the go.

However, for users already on the iPhone 15 Pro Max or those who prioritize portability, this change might not be groundbreaking. Other features, like improved cameras, better battery life, or new chipsets, might weigh more heavily in the decision.

Personally, I think display size is just one piece of the puzzle. It’s always worth waiting to see the full feature set before deciding. What about you—does a larger display make it tempting to upgrade? Or do you think iPhones are getting too big for comfort?
