iPhone 4 Jailbreak OFFICIAL How To

I jailbroke my iP4 day before yesterday and and for a couple of days it worked great. I was able to use FaceTime on the 3G and used MyWi with no problems. Yesterday I noticed a missed FaceTime call from a buddy and decided to try him back, at which time FaceTime crashed. I tried a few things and finally ended up doing a restore. That fixed FaceTime, but since I did not do a proper backup for Cydia I didn't find it and figured I would JB again. jailbreakme.com seems to be down. Any one out there running into the same garbage?

I broke mine the day It came out. There was a issue with facetime on release, but was fixed within a day or so.
There were two fixes for facetime, One was to Open Cydia and let it update itself as there was a update the next day, then reset your network settings and reboot, which worked for me.
The other If the first didnt work was to restore and re jailbreak, I have not heard of any problems once that was solved.
So I have been jailbroken since about 2 hours after release with no problems, One thing I have noticed is that some packages are not updated to work on 4.0 or 4.01 yet so make sure or it will be a quick install and delete..
As of this 20 mins ago Jailbreakme.com is up and running as I just broke my brothers IP4 around 20 mins ago..
I have been Jailbreaking since the first Iphone and this is the most stable break with now no bugs, Pretty amazing.
And why would anyone worry about trying it as long as your phone is backed up, If for some reason you had a problem which I dont see happening, just restore the phone and your backup and you are right where you were...
One piece of advice Is that once FW 4.1 comes out which this jailbreak will not work with, you will have no way to jailbreak, so dont wait too long
as even if your on 4.01 or 4.0, once 4.1 is out you will no longer be able to jailbreak 4.0, 4.01 and restore back to It. you will only have the option to restore to 4.1 and a long wait for a jailbreak for that FW..

What happened was when I went to jailbreakme.com and began the process of jailbreaking, the site recognized my phone and therefore did nothing since it thought I was already jailbroken. The way to correct this was by restoring my IP4 to factory, then going to jailbreakme.com and THEN restore to previous backup. This solved the problem. Thanks for your input, though.

Restore being to factory defaults "common knowledge" re-jailbreak "going to jailbreakme.com" and of course your going to restore a backup unless your gonna setup as a new phone??

there was another by phil . seemed a bit easier to do a fix for facetime i mean

Easy there armani22, no need to get all flustered. You need to read people's threads in more detail before you get your "panties in wad." Neither one of the solutions you offered worked for me. If the solution that worked for me in the end was "common knowledge," then I am glad I ran into someone on a different forum who had no issue sharing such knowledge as apparently you do. "Common knowledge" is just like "common sense," it would be great if all had it and put into practice, but not all do.
Good working on acquiring (some) common knowledge, now garner some wisdom and common sense and be a more helpful person.

Don't worry my panties are in tact LOL..
I still can't see how what you did, and what I posted previously differ?
You claim neither one of the solutions I offered worked for you. Then your stated fix IS one of the solutions I quoted???? Your restored your phone to Factory Default, Jailbroke again then restored your backup, This Is exactly what I said In short, Next time I will try to explain in more detail for the Simple Simons.....
And I hope everyone is getting there 4.0 / 4.01 SHSH files backed up to Cydia via Tiny Umbrella, This Is very Important as it has been with previous jailbreaks!
And dont worry Los If you dont know how I can explain to you In detail LOL...

its ok my fault,, after all this is a jb topic :)

but this is a question asked a lot and i think admin should put this in the FAQ.. but any way i will tell you my opinion and others will tell you theirs also, ive explained my thoughts many times so im just copy pasting what i wrote before and i know some one will add to it or tell you what they think

well there is lots of things to learn about jailbreaking lots of pros and cons. ive been doing it for years since 2007 iphone but with the iphone 4 i wont be jailbreaking.

Jailbreak iPhone | iPhone News, Help and Guides some of those features are already added officially but it gives you an idea of what extra you can do. it opens the iphones wings you install cydia and with that comes a load of apps apple are too stupid or stubborn to allow in the app store. a few apps like ssh and the ability to customise your iphone a lot more and change sms tone or using vlc player and emulators and free tethering and this and that im sure some one can tell you some good apps. like changing boot logo, also the ability to change the partition size. atm your iphone has a partition one for the os and the other for your files from itunes or your pc/mac you can change the default size if you want you can install android if you want. the pros are endless with few cons.

a few cons like every new firmware you need to wait for jailbreak to install those cydia/rock apps cydia and rock is basically jailbreak versions of app store, though apple got the idea for app store from the original installer that used to come from jailbreaking in 1.XX firmware. anyway every new firmware you wait and on top of that the apps most of them stop working with every new firmware so you have to wait for them to be ported, and some times they dont get ported. lately jailbreak apps people are starting to charge money. now i believe all cydia apps should be FREE if i wanted to pay i would stick with app store.. well i do pay and i do use app store but my point is cydia should be all about the free apps i mean charging for themes??!?! wtfrig has cydia come to.

you void the warranty when you jailbreak even though its legal now, but if you need to take it to apple you just restore and you lose the jailbreak. so its ok.

all in all i think jailbreaking on the iphone 4 is best give a miss. so far people who have done have had endless problems such as freezing of their iphones or problems with facetime and you have to download fixes.. it sounds all like too much hassle to me, and though i never personally had a problem with jailbreak, the iphone 4 brings so much features that you have less reason to jailbreak.

i guess you should decide for yourself though, have a read of the article have a look in the "hacking" section and you will find lots of info.

paliometoxo thanks alot for this
some great info there.

changing the sms tone sounds good its quite boring just having the built in tones.

:D

sure i hope it helped. the link has some features that apple have already enabled officially now because the guy bigboss of the dev team made it when 3.0 was released so a year ago

also just to add, usually jailbreak brings these features way before apple decide to add it officially, like copy paste multi tasking where available for years before apple added it, well 3 years lol but apple are late to add it, but they do a good job,

i used to love installing those apps like vlc player or nes snes emulators and winterboard was always a must. allowing you to customise the phone. terminal and ssh to your phone.. so many sweet apps

when jail broken you can get apps that is not on the apple store because they cant get approved by apple.

but yet there's more apps in the apple store what ive bought that simply dont work and people make alot of money.

for example the phone tracker .
track your friends by entering there phone number.
but no matter how many numbers you try it just locates your location.
its a complete scam but apple still allow it..

its those apps that should not be approved.

exactly, apple claim thats one of the main reasons they have to approve all the apps so the apps do what they say and you dont mess your phone up. but thats not the case, apple have to approve so many apps they are getting sloppy and allowing anything in even the hidden tethering apps and ones like it...
