iPhone 4s challenge

I have a VZW account with three phones. I picked up this iPhone on one of my other phones available upgrades. The phone was sent to be used with the upgrades number. With the help of VZW we changed the numbers around so the right number went with the right phone. THE PROBLEM..when I text another iPhone using Imessage it comes up as the "other" number not the one that was newly assigned to my iPhone. I turn off imessage and it comes up the proper number. How can I get this corrected. VZW tech support could not help me. I did a backup with itunes and a complete wipe on the phone. Before I did a restore the "other" number was gone but after the restore it came back. ???????????????

There have been others that have had this problem and I think aside from obvious solution ideas (changing imessage settings and email addresses) you need to take it to the apple store.
