iphone 4S - only one speaker works?

Hello all,
I am new to iphone 4S. I've been using crackberry for years

anyway, i've noticed my new iphone 4S only produce the music/audio from the right speaker.

Here is an example: I play "who let the dog out.mp3" (headset NOT plug in); the music only came out of the right speaker. I tried many different mp3 files and video files. Still, only the right speaker produces the sound. However, when I plugged in the headset I can hear the sound on both side of the headset.

Is that "as designed"?

Left "speaker" is a microphone.
