The release of iOS 5.1 beta code to developers yesterday has thrown up the usual very interesting little tidbits of information about future Apple products, with 9to5Mac being particularly diligent in unearthing the first mention of the next iPhone within the code. As you can see from the screenshot, an iPhone 5,1 is specifically mentioned in the code found by 9to5 Mac, which is presumably how the phone is referred to within Apple, and doesnt necessarily mean it will be the phone's official name when it is eventually released. As 9to5 Mac notes, the fact that the next iPhones identifier in the code makes the jump from 4,1 to 5,1 is yet another indication that the next iPhone will be significantly different from the iPhone 4S, following on from reports from a source in Asia yesterday that the next iPhone will have a 4-inch screen. 9to5 Mac also ventures that the next iPhone may well have an A6 processor, which would represent a massive leap forward in processing power. Finally, 9to5 Mac also speculates that the fact that the next iPhone has been mentioned this early in iOS code could mean that we should expect it to launch sooner (meaning Summer 2012) rather than later (i.e. Autumn 2012).
