iPhone 7 Colour?

I went with the black variant ...the glass back on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge back is all scratched up and I am EXTREMELY careful with it. So, figured the matte black would be a better option for me.

Exactly, to me Jet Black look more sensitive to little micro scratches and on matte black same is not visible probably.
Matte Black iPhone 7 is like dream. There are many nice cases for him but I prefer tempered glass and naked iPhone because than I could enjoy in real look and touch him not case. Tempered Glass is enough to allow you to keep iPhone on table with screen on surface.
