This is now the 3rd iphone 8+ I've had in less than a year. They all have had the same intermittent fault. Once every 6 weeks or so the battery will drop from anything from 70% to 100% to 0% in seconds. Nothing gets hot, no apps are running, the phone is not being used at the time. It's running the latest software. On one of the 3 iphones I had the battery changed, but it still did it. Battery health on all 3 was 100%. Has anyone else seen this from an iPhone 8 +. I love the phone, but will have to go back to an android if I can't sort this out.

The iPhone 8+ was produced between 2017 and 2020, so to have 3 in the last year that have all shown 100% battery seems a little strange. I would have expected them to have all shown a lot less than 100% considering their age. You say the battery was changed on one? Was this done by Apple or an independant?

By an independant, but I do know it was changed. As this is an intermitant fault (Mostly once every 4 to 6 weeks) I have taken a step to see it still faults. I have activated an automation to put the phone into airplane mode from sunset to sunrise as the fault always seems to happen during the night. It could be a couple of months before I get the results. The next step is to start deleting some of the apps that are common to all three iPhones.

I have an 8+. I have never experienced what is occurring to your iphone.. I have had the battery changed, by Apple, in March 2023. It is currently at 96% Maximum Capacity. My iphone functions as it has since I first acquired it new from Apple. I am wondering if your problem is not hardware but something in your software or an app you are using which is corrupted.Perhaps an appointment with Apple and not an independent is in order, they can diagnosed the problem for free even with an iPhone this old. Once they tell you what the problem is, you are not obligatedmto have the service performed.

That's interesting bear7962, is this something they can do remotley or do I need to send the phone to them? I've very much getting the impression that this is not a stock fault with the 8+ and as I have the latest software installed that only leaves apps. I don't have that many apps installed and only a few that are / were common to a 3 phones. I could stand to delete them. So after the airplane mode test (a couple of months max) I'll delete the apps and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for your input on this it has help me get a line of attack on this.

I know there are some diagnostics they can do remotely but do not know if that will be available or even if it is offered for a device not under AppleCare or warranty. I am in the fortunate position to be 15 minutes from 2 Apple Stores and learned long ago that I am happier with their results than servicing my devices at independent repair services. Why don’t you initiate a contact-they have an app you can use that facilitates that called Apple Support: ‎Apple Support

Warranty status makes no difference in whether or not the Genius Bar will test your device. Genius Bar diagnostics are free.Of course, if the device is out of warranty they will tell you how much any servicing will cost.

Thanks, I thought so but couldn’t remember about remote, and I rarely use remote because I am fortunate enough to live close to an Apple Store.

You could also back up your data and restore your iPhone to factory settings. Without putting the backup on it, test it out for a while. Resign into iCloud, and redownload apps. Then you can see if there was just some issue in the software installation.
You can always call or chat with AppleCare, and they can run a Mobile Resource Inspector diagnostic remotely. That should tell you if the battery is having problems. If it has been previously replaced by a third party, it would pop a warning. I believe getting battery service out of warranty is around $99 USD, if a working 8+ is super important. I would also do it soon, as the 8+ is sure to be moved to vintage status within the next year. That means Apple would stop making parts for it, but they would still be available while supplies last.
