According to the latest note to investors from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, via MacRumors, demand for the iPhone X is so high that it is “very likely” to cannibalize pre-orders for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Kuo points to the fact that it is still possible to get an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus for launch day delivery, whereas iPhone pre-orders have usually sold out at this point in September in past years.
“We believe this is because there is a strong likelihood that iPhone X demand will cannibalize iPhone 8 pre-orders,” said Kuo, and it looks like this belief is definitely on the money.
However, while high demand for the iPhone X is all good news for Apple, the fact that the phone is not available until November could have a detrimental effect on Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings results.
Kuo has more good news for Apple as far as the Series 3 Apple Watch is concerned, stating that demand for the LTE watch is “significantly stronger” than expected.
