Iphone4's screen broken. Questions about replacement

Hi everyone,

I'm a french guy living in the USA. I bought my iPhone4 in France in July 2010 on the Apple Store. That means that the phone is unlocked and not blocked by a provider.

Unfortunately I dropped my iPhone4 on the floor and the screen is broken.

I went 1 month ago in an Apple Store, and I've been told they couldn't change my iPhone because it was unlocked and they only had locked iPhones 4 for selling.

But I noticed a few days ago that Apple sells unlocked iphone4. Do you know if they could change mine ?

I'm asking you about that because I have to rent a car to go the AppleStore ... So if you think it's not possible I'm going to wait to be back in France.

So, what do you think ?

I am so sorry.... I wish I had a clue on how to advise you on this, however I don't! I can't imagine how frustrated you are.

Yeah I'm really frustrated. I though Apple could change it since it is a multinational established in many countries ....

But I guess, I'll go to the Apple Store tomorrow !
