i have an ipod touch running ios 3.1 and lately, none of teh apps on it is working. whenever i click on any downloaded app, it pretends to be opening and it crashes to the main screen instantly. i tried to delete one of the apps then went into the app store to download it again, and i got a message popping up and saying "you need to upgrade to ios 4.3 to be able to update app"

is the ios 3.1 not valid anymore? i mean is teh update a must now? is this normal?

Unfortunately, as Apple releases new version of the iOS (we're up to iOS version 6.0.2 now, with 6.1 right around the corner), developers also update their apps to run best on the new iOS. Eventually, an iOS gets so old (and so few people are still using it) that the developer makes a decision to stop supporting the older versions in the interests of time and money (they do better on the new iOS...).

All this to say that yes, if you want to use those apps, you must upgrade your iOS. So, it's kind of mandatory, in a way... Sorry.

Hmmmm.... seems strange that they quit working suddenly. But you can view the system requirements for each app in the Store and see if your 3.1 is OK for that particular app. Not many will be, but "some" still should. Get back on this...

Thank you for th replies. It is crazy but yesterday I tried and without changing a thing, the apps started working again. However, it is almost impossible to download new ones. They all ask for more recent ios
I don't understand why apps stopped and why they are back!!!
