itunes backup folder - can it be accessed?

I have a itunes backup folder that is over 3G in size. I have recently restored my phone from scratch (to its original) and it is not seeing that large backup for my restore from backup. Is there a program I can use to view that backup folder? I am missing over 200 photos from when I did the backup.

i cant believe there is no easy way to access this darn folder.... its a shame.
