Latest IOS Software?

I'm a new Verizon Iphone user and was wondering if the IOS version 4.2.10 is the latest version available? Also, when you do update software for the iphone does it erase all your apps etc?

He doesn't need to update to 4.2.10 if he doesn't want. If he wants to jailbreak he'll lose the opportunity to do so if he does do want to.

Currently CDMA iPhone is running on 4.2.10 and it is the latest however very soon (around Sept hopefully) we all will be upgraded to iOS 5. An update of iOS will not do anything to data on your phone unless you do a restore of the phone. You can even backup the phone through iTunes and restore to the same data in case you need to restore the phone to factory settings..

So there is no jailbreak with 4.2.10?

There is tethered jailbreak available for 4.2.10 as of right now and I believe that Untethered might not be available as everyone is hoping to get the iOS 5 soon so no one is worried about working on the code for a untethered one....
