Microsoft is updating its iconic Office iOS apps - Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with a bunch of new features for iPhone and iPad users. All three apps have been updated with support for viewing protected documents and Outlook integration.
Outlook users now have the ability to “send a document as an attachment in Outlook. Or directly edit a document attached to or linked from an Outlook email message.” Furthermore, all three Office apps get support for bi-directional and script languages, including Thai, Hebrew, and Arabic.
The new version of the Office apps will allow users to invite others to edit a document and configure permissions for those collaborators. Here are some other new features coming to Word, PowerPoint and Excel for iOS:
- Word - new templates: create great looking Word documents more quickly by using one of the new templates; Word Add-ins: add functionality to Word that enhance your documents and helps increase your productivity. (only on iPad, requires iOS 8.2 or newer)
- Excel - Add-ins: add functionality to Excel that enhance your spreadsheets and helps increase your productivity. (only on iPad, requires iOS 8.2 or newer)
- PowerPoint - change Slide layout: make your content pop by changing the layout of your slide; insert from camera: insert pictures and videos from the camera right into your presentation.
