I hardly used my 3Gs today but during a call it started sizzling and when I looked at the charging slot it was making a sizzling noise and seemed like the plastic is burning. The phone kept saying that "Charging is not supported with this device" even though it wasn't on charge. I turned it off because I was scared the battery would explode. lol

Any help? :)

The lol and smily face used in the end is suspicious. If this was a real story then the op should be rushing to apple store instead of spamming here. Ridiculous story

Maybe I am missing something here...........But yes, I would go to the Apple store for this one, that is most certainly a hardware issue....

Wow that's really rude. : ( This was my first post here and my problem is true. I really think something burned inside since now my sound controls arent working, and I keep getting that error message about "charging not supported with this accesory" even though the sizzling/crackling noise stopped and the phone isn't plugged in. My warranty is over so I didn't know if Apple will help.

Thanks for a warm welcome guys -__- I was a new member expecting some help instead of being called names and being insulted for no apparent reason.

Ok, here is proof. You can see that my sound system isn't working (sound bars aren't showing right?), and I'm getting that charging error even though the battery isn't being charged. (look that the battery icon, a charging cable is NOT attached)

Just because you never heard about some problems, doesn't mean they don't exist and someone is making it up. You don't have to be rude. I doubt anyone can help a hardware issue, but I was just expecting some advice of what I could do. Thanks for showing me how friendly you members are.

I'm sure you don't doubt it because the proof is right there. Now you just know I'm not a spammer who came here to "make up stories." Thanks anways.

I'm sorry everyone was so rude. At any rate, I had a problem similar to this but it was due to water damage. I had to file an insurance claim with my carrier and get a replacement.

Listen im sorry. Ive had to deal with two other ppl who made up stories and joke threads. I guess it just seemed like it at first. My apologies.

99% of the time, this is a moisture issue. But, it is occurring technically at BOTH ends of the phone due to the nature of the sound system. If you plug in a set of headphones and the volume bar returns, then you are looking at a short at the dock connector that deals with the pins that control charging and sound pass thru.

You may want to leave it off for a few days and put it in some rice to help leech out any of the remaining moisture that caused the short to begin with. As long as you don't get any more moisture in it, it should continue to work but the operation of it will continued to be impaired because the damage to one of the circuits is already done.

You didn't have to "deal" with anyone of you don't want to. No one is forcing you to respond or be mean to anyone.

On the other hand it does sound like moisture. Or I believe your battery is shorting out and might get the boards or not giving the phone enough juice to run.

Btw that is an awesome first post. A true " I need help"

Let's CUT the rude posts out and try to help this new member.
Thank you SkullOne and Maka for the helpful posts.
Also, I'd like to recommend visiting www.ifixit.com
They have a lot of videos of iPhone breakdowns and they sell OEM replacement parts. Just in case you decide to try to fix the issue on your own. :)
I'd give SkullOnes recommendation a try first though!

To the OP, I am do sorry you got some grief here but I second the idea about letting your phone rest in a bowl of uncooked rice a few days to suck up moisture. Although I have never had to do this myself I heard it is a trick that really does the job.

Wow....glad it wasn't me asking for advice!
Hope you can find an answer as to why your phone is getting is not working properly. Sounds to me like a moisture problem also. Hopefully it hasn't doesn't permanent damage.
