With the London Olympics mere days away now, Mashable reports that NBC has today announced a couple of apps covering the Olympics. NBC Olympics Live Extra and NBC Olympics will both be available for iPhone and iPad, with Live Extra offering streaming of every competition, making a total of 3,500 hours of live video footage and 302 medal competitions. The NBC Olympics app will act as a companion app to the streaming app, featuring stats and results, profiles of the athletes competing, highlights, written articles, and social networking elements. Both apps were based around Adobe, but presumably not Flash! In order to access the streaming coverage, Mashable writes that you must be in the US, first off, and must also subscribe to a verified cable, satellite or telco service, and also pay for a video tier that includes CNBC and MSNBC. With this being the first summer Olympics since the rise of the tablet, it will be interesting to see how much second-screen usage goes on.
